Exposition « The adventure of Gauguin and Pont-Aven »
Musée des Beaux Arts of Quimper
From the 12th of July till the 30th of September

Within the context of the commemoration of the centenary of the passing away of Gauguin, the museum of art in Quimper (musée des Beaux-Arts, Quimper) and the museum of Luxembourg in Paris have decided to join efforts in order to organize the most ambitious exposition ever consecrated to Gauguin and the famous « School of Pont-Aven ».

Around the fort representative center of the painters Gauguin, Bernard and Sérusier, the exposition also presents the very significative works of painters of the same school, such as Moret, Maufra, de Haan, Filiger, Delavallée, O’Conor, Slewinski, etc.

Furthermore, over a hundred works, mostly paintings, but also some drawings, engravings and sculptures from the the most prestigious french and international private collections will be united for the occasion.

This exposition constitutes a genuine travel guide and enables you to appreciate Quimper, the capital city of Cornouaille and « the city of art and history » even more.

Puzzle workshop « Gauguin, friends and Cornouaille”
Quimper – From July till September 2003

A very original concept : reconstitution of the works of Gauguin in the form of giant puzzles. Come and join the workshop at the Saint Corentin Square (outside), or in the hall on the first floor of the “Halles Saint François” (inside), depending on the weather.
Exposition of the resulting works in the town hall of Quimper and in the hall of the “Conseil Général du Finistère” during July and August.

Earthenware of Quimper HB-Henriot
A unique serie of earthenware inspired by Gaguin
Visit of the earthenware workshops

The discovery of bits of eartheware in the “Gauguin wells” on Hiva-Hoa (Marquesas Islands) in 2001 led to the idea of creating « Gauguin earthenware ».
Christine Noël, earthenware painter for HB-Henriot, has designed a series of 12 pieces inspired by Gauguin, entitled “Les Bretonnes”. Every piece is signed by the artist and labelled “Label Gauguin”.
This unique serie will be presented.when visiting the HB-Henriot workshops in 2003.

Design of a plate with the portrait of Gauguin
Exposition at the Earthenware Museum – From April till the end of 2003

Thanks to the collaboration of numerous contemporary artists, the earthenware decoration has changed over the last couple of years. At the occasion of the centenary of Gauguin’s death, one of these artists, Patrice Cudennec, has designed a new plate decoration. The result, a limited serie (100 pieces) of plates with the portrait of Gauguin.

Exposition/game « Gauguin inside-out »
Musée des Beaux Arts of Quimper – From March 19th till June 22nd 2003

A funny interactive discovery game for the 4 to 12 years old to discover art in general and Gauguin in particular.
The game is composed of 15 giant paint boxes, containing reproductions, observation games and puzzles on the life of Gauguin. This way, the children discover the life and works of the painter in a playfull manner.
Furthermore, a “treasure hunt” guided by a booklet.
A little book of 40 pages is available for the young ones as well in order to continue the discovery at home.

Educational excursion « In Gauguin’s footsteps »
