The event of 2003 is the inaugurating of the « Pouldu’s road of painters », with the Marie-Henry house as starting point. Paul Gauguin has lived in this famous house in Pouldu for one year. At the time it was called the “Buvette de la plage” kept by Marie Poupée. Paul Sérusier, Charles Filiger, Jacob Mayer, de Hann joined Gauguin in the winter of 1889 and decorated the walls, doors, windows and ceilings of the dining room. It has become a genuine monument thanks to the paintings, engravings and rare and unpublished documents.

The « Pouldu’s road of painters » discovery tour
Clohars-Carnoët - From the 5th of July to the 24th of August 2003

Pouldu, a village in the Clohars-Carnoët district, has accommodated Paul Gauguin, Jacob Meyer de Haan, Charles Filiger, Maxime Maufrat and several other artists inspired by Gauguin.
To celebrate the event of the centenary of Gauguin’s death this year 2003, Clohars-Carnoët inaugurates the “painter road” tour.
Departure from the “Marie-Henry” house, which accommodated artists from the 19th century from all over the world. Just the house itself is worth a visit, since it has been completely decorated by all artists who stayed there during the winter of 1889. A genuine monument.
This tour with 12 stops will allow you to experience the same inspiring atmosphere these artists experienced.

Fête traditionnelle “Fête des Goëmoniers”

Le Pouldu pays tribute to Paul Gauguin by celebrating the traditional Goëmoniers festival. The voluntary workers take you way back into history, by collecting all kind of seafood the same way their forefathers did.
The “Les goëmoniers” association celebrates the painters’ memory by reconstituting “life size” the famous painting of the “ramasseuses de varech” (the ‘varech’ collectors) on the “grandes sables” beach.
Furthermore : activities around ancient handcrafts, seaweed market.

Exposition « Le Pouldu according to Gauguin »

From the 5th of July till the 24th of August

Guided by ancients postcards you will discover Le Pouldu and its surroundings which have completely seduced Paul Gauguin.
This exposition takes place on two separated sites. The combination of postcards and the little walk between these sites, enables the visitor to fully enjoy the atmosphere so much appreciated by Gauguin.
